History
John A. Kraus, for whom Grandpa John’s Café is named, became a businessman in Nauvoo in 1912.
In 1946, he purchased a building just across the street, admiring its early Mormon architecture dating back to 1841. His son, Elmer J. Kraus, oversaw extensive restoration of the building, and it opened as Hotel Nauvoo in 1948.
Now fully restored, Hotel Nauvoo offers overnight guest rooms with modern conveniences, and a world-famous buffet.
Overnight guests at Hotel Nauvoo, and nearby Motel Nauvoo, receive a 25% discount off the price of Breakfast at Grandpa John’s Café.
